Motivational Quote of the Day
“Nothing out there makes sense anymore. If you want dental work, you come to me, I won’t come to you anymore.” - Lord Hambersham, DDS
Cereal of the Day
Rice, milled corn, sugar, and a minute amount of salt, molasses, brown rice syrup, baking soda, and turmeric extract color compose this classic cereal. Crispix was introduced in 1983 by Kellogg’s as a direct competition to General Mills’ Chex brand of cereals. Chex, at the time, was either rice or corn while Crispix was both. Rice on one side, corn on the other. Crispy rice and crunchy corn. You didn’t have to choose, you could have both. Kellogg’s has kept the exact preparation process close to the vest, but it’s not too difficult to discern that a sheet of corn and a sheet of rice are glued together and baked. The lattice design was a nice touch, as it ended up having the perfect crunch to squishy ratio when soaking in a bowl of milk.
One of the best things about Crispix however is its adaptability to be included in multiple snack-based recipes. Because of the dual flavoring of rice and corn, it actually works better in these snacks versus its snack competitor in Chex. It can also be used a gluten free pie crust component, or in the dry coating for fried foods. The only negative about Crispix is how grocery stores have handled its placement in recent years, if they carry it at all. Due to the sheer amount of Chex variations, Special K variations and so on, Crispix has been pushed to the bottom of the shelves, or left off the order list. It’s a shame, because this is one of the modern cereal classics.
News From Earth
There is no good news anymore. Not to wax too nostalgic about the good ‘ol days before 24-hour cable news (not news, opinion about news), but we used to get the news then the local news, which was usually human interest feel-good stories. Those stories have been lost as the airwaves are filled with negative, terrible stories every day. We are expected to consume it all and view the world through an angry, fed-up lens. Where in reality, we should all just not give an actual fuck. There’s a whole book about this. You should read it.
Let’s scroll through today’s headlines and determine if we should give an actual fuck about the negative story or not. From above the fold on ABC News:

Jerusalem, West Bank on edge after violence - DGAF
President Biden holds Lunar New Year reception - DGAF

See how easy that was? We don’t have to give an actual fuck about any of this. Why? Why should we not care about these stories? They are reporting on important events… for someone else. While it can be perceived as selfish to only be concerned with news that affects us, it’s time we spent a bit more energy doing just that. With social media use at an all time high, we are overwhelmed with negative stories all day long. We see the news of the world, all the world and feel like we have to vocally care about it. If we don’t tweet about are we horrible? If we don’t have an opinion on protests in Georgia does that make us terrible people? This doesn’t even consider the futility of our self-serving opinions. The bottom line is, it’s exhausted. We’re exhausted. Take a break.

Ephemeral Erosion
Becoming frustrated with the world around us is not a new response to being a global citizen. However, though we are global citizens we have a duty to take care of ourselves before anything else. How can we hope to serve others if we can’t get our own shit together? Remaking our identities based on a political or social ideal is straight up death dealing. It’s self destructive and only serves to shrink us further into a void of darkness of which it’s nearly impossible to return. We don’t care too much, we pretend to care too much just to be heard and that’s a problem.
This is all fueled by our addiction to media, something most people cannot compartmentalize. True addicts know how to disseminate all this information being thrown at us, n00bs don’t. They get sucked in, get addicted and cannot leave their phones. Cannot leave a comment lie, cannot leave a news story untouched. Cannot just shut the fuck up. This is destroying them. It’s making them sad, angry, confused and just a mess. It’s hurting their personal and professional relationships and further spiraling communication and co-existence with fellow humans down the proverbial drain. We need to just not give a fuck more often to release ourselves from the hold of constant information. Or, life is short, go play outside.
